Bank Announces A Reminder About $5 Million Low Interest Loan Program For Town Of Cairo Businesses

CAIRO, NEW YORK – The Bank of Greene County announced the first recipients of its $5 million in low interest loan program supporting business investments on Main Street in Cairo, NY.

Don Gibson, President & CEO stated: “We launched our low-interest loan program for Main Street Cairo back in February, and I’m pleased to announce that several local businesses are in the process of receiving a low-interest loan for their investments.  We pledged up to $5 million dollars in low-interest loans, and there is still money available.  This program is designed to support new business entrepreneurs and existing local businesses.  We are deeply rooted in the communities we serve, and want to help Main Street Cairo continue to grow and flourish.”

The low interest loan program is specifically designed for businesses to invest and make improvements to buildings on Main Street Cairo.  Initial applicants include Larry and Katrina Lee – Lee Physical Therapy, John Gallagher – Gallagher’s Banquet, and Nina Heath – Delightful Bites By Nina.

Larry and Katrina Lee stated “we are excited to be one of the first recipients of the Bank’s Low-Interest Loan Program to support investment on Main Street in Cairo.  We plan to move our business to Main Street, and are using the proceeds of the loan to help with building renovations. We look forward to our new location, and expanding our services to the community in the near future!”

John Gallagher stated “it is so refreshing to see the Bank of Greene County setting aside money for low-interest loans to support Main Street Cairo businesses.  This is Cairo’s time – I am using the money to help with building renovations, and I look forward to seeing other new businesses join the Main Street community and help Cairo flourish.”

Nina Heath stated “I discovered the Cairo community right before COVID, and everyone has been so welcoming.  I appreciate the investment in the community, and look forward to growing my business.”

Harry Lennon, Greene County Legislator, stated: “the recent financial commitment that the Bank of Greene County has made in support of our small businesses within the Town of Cairo fits so well with the County’s efforts in Economic Development.  Businesses are coming back to Main Street in Cairo and new people are moving in to enjoy our community.  With recent improvements to the Angelo Canna Town Park, and major water and sewer projects advancing for industrial development, the town is becoming an even greater place to live, work, and raise a family.  This funding opportunity will only accelerate the process of our revitalization efforts, and we are fortunate and proud to have the Bank of Greene County as such a committed partner.”

Peter Markou, Greene County Treasurer, stated “as a former Economic Developer and current County Treasurer, this is a great partnership between Greene County and the Bank of Greene County.  I’m a strong supporter of keeping money local, and these low-interest loans will help local businesses with many exciting projects.  I appreciate the Bank of Greene County investing in the local community, the same as Greene County is investing in the area.”

Assemblyman Chris Tague, Assembly District 102 stated “thank you to the Bank of Greene County for your investment, service, dedication and commitment to the communities and people you serve. It is amazing to see local businesses supporting each other and helping Cairo grow.”

James Hannahs, Director of Greene County Economic Development stated “this initiative not only uplifts Cairo’s Main Street, but also adds to the powerful toolkit we use to incentivize small business development. This program, paired with our new MULTI Grant for microenterprises, highlights the pro-business climate that exists in Cairo. We are thrilled to be working alongside the committed stakeholders at the Bank of Greene County to offer needed resources for small businesses.”
